  • As a 12 year old I was a member of the choir of a small church in my home town, when I was able to sing Soprano. Much later when I was in my 40s and working in Saudi Arabia I sang as a tenor in a mixed choir of expatriates. It was wound up when the Saudi authorities learned that we were proposing to include some Christmas songs in a forthcoming concert.

Later, following my return to UK I sang as a bass in South Fylde Male Voice Choir and later joined Blackpool Male Voice Choir. Both of these community choirs were accompanied by a piano.

After moving to Ramsey, I was a walk-in and joined Vocal Academy, were Graham Davies decided that I was a Baritone. I then moved to Shannon Express and later to Ouse Valley Chorus which is now A1 Acapella where I enjoy the singing and fellowship of the members of that chorus, as well as that of members of the wider barbershop community.

I do not read music but that has not prevented me from learning and enjoying the singing of  many, many songs over the years by learning from the teach tracks that we normally receive along with the musical score.

Barbershop singing has been an important part of my life now for more than 20 years, and in that time I have never met anyone who does not wish that they had discovered barbershop singing earlier in their life.
